Abstract

Sex Worker Decrim Now!
Zines are sous Ivory Tower. Not just so-called “low culture,” but coming from below and (most often) to the left. They are the antithesis of traditional academia; a grassroots way to disseminate vital information and cultural knowledge that are also peer-reviewed in real time like their academic counterparts. As someone equally intellectual and active, part of my contribution to collective liberation and community care is filling in gaps in information. As a sex worker-based harm reductionist, I could not find literature expressly on the discussion of and fight for the decriminalization for versus the legalization of sex work to disseminate during my runs. Much like in academic research when one cannot find a substantial (or any) amount of literature to begin an analysis and review for an undertaking, I saw a need for and an opportunity to contribute to the “field” as it were (or, in this case, movement) and help fill in that information gap. As a peer, I was able to both find and use known and other sex worker colleagues’ own words and advocacy actions to explain their fight. In keeping with praxis and community care, I also created a resource log in the back pages.
In keeping with my ethos to protect and preserve radical access to information, the PDF of this zine has been added to my open-access living zine archive, like all other zines I make or obtain.
